Overview

Disc Dancer, patinated bronze, after Derenne (Marcel-André Bouraine), France, circa 1930
A striking Art Deco bronze of a nude female dancer, poised in perfect balance with discs in both hands — a dynamic and iconic motif of the 1930s. This model, known as Disc Dancer, originates from the celebrated designs of Marcel-André Bouraine (who worked under the pseudonym Derenne) for the renowned Max Le Verrier foundry in Paris. The figure’s athletic tension and aerodynamic grace capture the spirit of modernism at its height, celebrating movement, freedom, and feminine elegance.
Executed in warm patinated bronze with beautiful natural tonality, the sculpture stands on a stepped base of fine green marble, complementing the form’s upward motion. Measuring approximately 27 cm in height, it retains excellent surface detail and a rich, even patina. The piece is unsigned, yet unmistakably in the manner of Derenne — a highly desirable model sought by collectors of period bronzes.
In very good condition, with minimal wear consistent with age. A fine example of French Art Deco artistry offered well below the current market level for signed pieces of this model.
