Church incense diffuser, bronze, France, early 20th century
Overview
Church incense diffuser, bronze, France, early 20th century
A striking ecclesiastical incense diffuser, likely originating from a French church in the early 20th century. Made of solid bronze with a richly aged patina, this piece was once used to hold burning incense during liturgical ceremonies. Its elegant, urn-like shape is enhanced by pierced gothic-style motifs on the bowl, allowing the scented smoke to escape during use. Two cast side handles add both symmetry and function. It now offers versatile decorative potential—perfect as a rare ecclesiastical artifact, or easily repurposed as a planter or small storage vessel. The craftsmanship is substantial, with the weight and detail characteristic of early church bronze. Height approximately 20 cm, width with handles 24 cm.
An extremely rare and atmospheric item with spiritual history, now offered well below its market value. Similar antique incense burners of this size and condition can command far higher prices. Minor surface wear consistent with age only adds to its charm.
