Lamps, set of two, opal glass, P. D'Avesn, Art Deco (1920s, 30s), France
This antique lamp base are made of opaline glass, an antique glassware which resembles opal stone. The first opaline glass was made in Murano in the sixteenth century, with the addition of calcium phosphate, resulting from the calcination of bones. On the bottom the lamps are signed by the artist Pierre D'Avesn (1901-1990), joined René Lalique at the age of 14. He designed Lalique's famous "Serpent" vase as well as the "Tourbillons" vase, two of the most highly priced and extremely collectable pieces by Lalique. In 1926, he left René Lalique and created his own models. His pieces were made by Cristallerie de Choisy-le-Roi (Sèvres), surely the most important French glass worker for the molded glass Art pieces with René Lalique and Sabino.
These lamp bases can be personalized with your own lampshade, or the ones shown in the picture. They have one long cable attached to a single electric plug. The lightbulb will be provided. They will make wonderful bedside lamps.
