The typical "Florentine technique" of processing and decorating wooden objects dates back to the 16th/17th century and is now considered partly lost. Florentine wooden trays are made exclusively by hand. This product included gold leaf, gilding, and polishing. It can be used and is not merely decorative, being treated in such a way as to make it perfectly usable.
