Overview

Pair of candelabra, gilt bronze, France, circa 1880–1900

An exquisite pair of French Rococo revival gilt bronze candelabra with graceful, naturalistic forms and superb chasing. Each piece features three candle arms blooming into flower-bud sockets, supported by swirling stems entwined with delicate foliage and resting on asymmetrical rocaille bases. The casting is of fine quality, with crisp detail and a rich gilded surface softly mellowed by time. Standing approximately 35 cm high, they display the elegance and motion typical of the Louis XV revival style of the late 19th century. Both stable and intact, with only minor age wear to gilding. A charming and decorative pair that perfectly captures the exuberant refinement of the French Belle Époque.
