Overview
Teapot, silver-plated, England, 1911
This elegant silver-plated teapot was crafted in 1911 by Elkington & Co., one of England’s most renowned makers of electroplated silverware. With its graceful, elongated body and refined proportions, the teapot rests confidently on four feet adorned with simplified acanthus leaf motifs — a restrained nod to classical ornament.
The body itself is smooth and unembellished, allowing the striking floral-shaped rim to take center stage. This unusual scalloped edge adds a delicate decorative touch, echoing the fluid curves of the pot’s silhouette. The handle and lid finial are carved from solid ebony, providing a pleasing contrast in both color and texture while also serving a functional role as heat-resistant elements.
Elkington & Co., established in 1815 in Birmingham, was a pioneer of silver plating and quickly earned an international reputation for its technical innovation and fine design. This piece exemplifies their craftsmanship and aesthetic restraint.
Condition is excellent for its age: the silver plating retains its soft shine, and only minor surface wear is present. The structure is sound, with no visible dents or repairs — a remarkable survival and a sophisticated accent for any collection or tea table.
