Teapot, silver plated, Roux - Marquiand, France, late 19th century.
Overview
Teapot, silver plated, France, late 19th century, 1L
This elegant 1-liter silver-plated teapot by Roux-Marquiand is a refined example of late 19th-century French craftsmanship in the Louis XVI style. Its decorative elements include ribboned fillets, sculpted laurel motifs, and gracefully curved legs—each detail meticulously worked in the solid form of this vessel. The handle is accented by heat-resistant ivory disks, an ingenious and rare period feature that both protects the hand and adds a touch of sophistication.
Measuring approximately 23 cm in height, 26 cm in length, and 15 cm in width, this teapot is generously sized for tea service yet delicate in visual presence. The hallmark on the base, [R★M], confirms its origin in the renowned Roux-Marquiand workshop of Lyon, active from 1876 and known for supplying prestigious clients, including Hermes by the 1960s. The piece carries a rich, dark patina, with only light signs of wear consistent with its age.
A rare and highly collectible item, especially desirable for lovers of French silverware and Neoclassical form. Offered at a favorable price given the maker and provenance.
